OURS IS A LOST GENERATION

By Adetunji ADEDEJI

I see my generation destroying the pillars that support the stability of my dearest country "NIGERIA". I see Nigeria becoming a banana tree. When a banana tree produces fruit and the fruit turns ready for harvesting, the banana tree meets its death from that moment because the tree becomes perish when the fruit is offloaded from the tree.

Ours is a lost generation and could be described as a banana fruit on the tree that produces it. Ours is a generation that has come to send Nigeria to her early grave and with no mercy for the labour of our past heroes.

This morning, i woke up to see my generation running after vanity. I see my generation neglecting what had earlier been embraced by our past heroes who brought our nation the freedom we enjoy today.

My generation suddenly becomes a generation that does not seek to choose its role model from the midst of those whom have lost their lives in the real struggles for freedom of mankind. Ours is a generation that shuns those whom have worked so hard for long and later became successful as its role model. My generation has become a generation that will not willingly get exposed to educational materials or gathering that will support mental strength.

Today, what my generation is seen embracing are those whom have made their wealth through the backdoor and they are the people my generation suddenly adopts as role models. A generation that believes more in MMM than hardwork is my generation which i describe as a banana fruit on the tree that produces it.

On daily basis, my generation is busy looking for every shortcuts to wealth at the detriment of the stability of the nation. A generation that does not care to know how LEKAN ASUNI became the CEO of a multinational company through hardwork but will always strive to appear in exotic cars the likes of LEKAN ASUNI never had in their garages through a simple shortcuts preached by MMM and Yahoo plus..

It is very sad that the same members of my generation are being admitted into Nigerian Police and we continue to demand that President Buhari should stop bribery and corruption.

Very unbelievable that members of my generation are becoming pastors and Imams where business and worship are dubiously combined.

The thinking and activities of my generation serve as a great threat to Nigerian economy where lavish spending in the hands of those who have made it through the backdoor indicates no respect for our currency. These are the people who spend lavishly in the party before musicians and they impress our youth who would have ordinarily waited for their time keeping their nose to the ground stone(i.e being hardworking) but subsequently choose to find an alternative out of their ignorance.

My generation is fast moving into politics with little or no knowledge of how our society should look like, no wonder our legislators are seen joining the queue of MMM victims.

Today, President Buhari is in UK and many people are of the opinion that the cause of our problems is in UK where he's receiving treatment, however, my generation which is the major cause of many national problems is still here in Nigeria. Therefore, our problems are with us here with Buhati as our president or not.

In all honesty, I have not been able to predict if this country will ever be a better place with my generation finding shortcuts to success everyday. Rather, my big challenge is who leads us even when we say Buhari is not capable enough?

I don't see President Buhari returning with any solution because the banana fruit is ready for harvesting and I see the banana tree going perish.

IS OURS NOT A LOST GENERATION?
